June 2013 Favourites!

15 Jul

HELLO WORLD!

Finally writing another post and it feels like a breath of fresh air!
I have a whole lot of stuff coming up, so stay tuned! Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube… if you would like to keep up to date with all my going-on-isms…

SO. Favourites. Favorites. However you spell it.
It’s late – yep I know. But better late than never!

LETS BEGIN!

FAVOURITES!

Johnson’s Daily Essentials Refreshing Facial Cleansing Wipes!

Johnson’s Daily Essentials Refreshing Facial Cleansing Wipes

There are some amazing facial wipes right here.

Not only are they affordable (drug store prices) and came in a handy pack of 3; as per the packaging, it really does remove waterproof eye makeup!

It takes off my long lasting foundation oh-so-well and is gentle and doesn’t make me break out.
On top of everything, it doesn’t tear and stretch like other cheaper brands.

The only thing that isn’t too great about these cleansing wipes is the oily residue that’s left behind on my skin after use. This is especially evident when I pull a wipe out of a freshly opened packet!
It’s definitely a little inconvenient when I use these wipes just before a work out session at my local gym. But after a little while, the extra moisture does dry and lessen on my face, so it doesn’t pose too big of a problem.

Australis 4-in-1 Conceal Corrector Palette

Australis 4-in-1 Conceal Corrector Palette

WOW. Now this has definitely been a favourite of mine throughout June, and will CONTINUE to be a favourite I’m pretty sure!

I have not seen a corrector palette like this before amongst any other drug store brands.
You can always find the occasional stand-alone corrector stick (in yellow or green etc), but I’ve never seen it come in a palette amongst more affordable brands!

I’ve only spotted something similar within Make Up Forever’s range, Ben Nye and Napoleon Perdis (though I’m pretty sure other companies out there produce these palettes). But all I’ve come across have been either quite expensive or hard to get my hands on considering I live on an island, surrounded by 3 oceans. i.e. Australia.

In particular, I am loving the lavender shade in this palette. When applying a thin layer underneath my eyes, my dark circles are immediately highlighted and concealed! And with some standard skin tone concealer straight over the top, my dark circles are the last of my worries throughout the day.

Australis Make Up Finishing Spritz

Australis Make-Up Finishing Spritz

Behold, it’s another Australis product in my favourites!
They’re definitely killing it recently, aren’t they?

This is again another product that I have mainly seen amongst high end brands, so I was super surprised when I found this sitting in the Australis section of my local Priceline drug store.

Not only is it inexpensive and comes in a decent size bottle (150ml to be exact), it also WORKS!

Just a light layer of this spritz all over your foundation keeps it staying on for longer throughout the day, and reduces the “cakey” and “powdery” look of loose powder foundation.

Besides having to let you know that this spritz is more than half the price and 5 times the size of the famed Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Make Up Setting Spray, there’s really nothing more I can say…

Sasatine Blotting Tissues

Blotting tissues to the rescue! Who needs them? Because I definitely do.

As a sufferer of excessive-oily-skin syndrome, I am a constant believer of blotting tissues.

I mostly find that cheaper alternatives are very bad quality, leaving oily residue on the hand you employed to put the blotting tissue into action…
And more expensive brands are really not worth it! (In no way can I justify spending $18 AUD on 75 Mary Kay blotting tissues – no matter how great they are!)

But. I have found. The ONE.

These blotting tissues are not only about $2 on sasa.com.au, they’ve got one plastic-like side and one tissue side, which ends up stopping any oils transferring onto your fingers after use!
They’re great 🙂

I approve.

Exfoliating Glove

Exfoliating Glove

Now if you don’t exfoliate your body already, you need to get on the bandwagon.

I just picked up these gloves from my local supermarket – it set me back about $4 AUD max, and use it about 2 times a week.

After ever use, my skin feels ridiculously soft and smooth and all the grime, dirt and… dead skin cells… are washed away, leaving me baby smoooooth!

Word of warning: try not to get too addicted and use these gloves too often.
They are exfoliating your skin at the end of the day, and this shouldn’t be happening too regularly otherwise your skin may start to get sensitive from excessive abrasion.
But team it with your favourite body wash a couple of times a week, and you will not stop touching yourself!… Your SKIN that is. In a completely non-sexual way…

*awkward*

Dermaveen Shampoo And Conditioner

Dermaveen Shampoo & Conditioner

Dermaveen Shampoo & Conditioner

For dry scalp and dandruff sufferers, please read on.

I have been experiencing an extremely dry and dandruff-filled scalp lately, causing me to run to different GPs crying for help.

After some prescribed shampoos and even recommendations to visit a scalp specialist, the only thing that’s worked for me is Dermaveen!

I was recommended this by a cousin of mine that was experiencing the same thing (to a lesser degree) and after picking up the bottles from my local Priceline, I have never had a dandruff problem since.

What used to be a low self-esteem and self-conscious Rean, is now a loud and proud individual who is unafraid of letting down her hair and shaking her head around like a wild woman!

This has definitely been the biggest help to my journey of scalp recovery, and I’m pretty sure it’ll be a favourite for awhile yet!

There is also a lovely almond scent that is refreshing against all the floral scents that you get from other hair care products.

This has definitely saved the day.

Manicare Cuticle Oil

Manicare Cuticle Oil

Manicare Cuticle Oil

I AM A BELIEVER! (Wow, aren’t I particularly passionate about my favourites this month???)

This product has gotten me through autumn (fall) and majority of winter, without painful dry skin appearing around my nail beds.

Have you seen The Black Swan?
Do you remember the scene where she was picking at the dry skin around her nail, started to pull it and…. okay lets just leave it at that.

Well I used to get the same dry skin around my nails when winter rolled around each year, causing the skin to peel and snag against clothes (knit especially) and bring tears to my eyes.
After applying this before any fresh mani though, my skin stayed moisturised and peel free!

There is no need for Black Swan moments. Just a (nut) cracker of a mani without the distractions of sore dry skin.

MISSES. (BOO!)

4ME Nail Polish Remover Pads

4me Nail Polish Remover Pads

4me Nail Polish Remover Pads

There is only one miss in the month of June for Miss Rean, and it’s the 4ME Nail Polish Remover Pads that I got in a Bellabox a few months ago.

Don’t get me wrong – this is a great concept!
Nail polish remover on the go, without the hassle of liquids, spillage, and a travel disaster waiting to happen.

The only problem is that it doesn’t work!

I’m not sure whether it’s the actual design of the product or whether it’s just this particular brand, but it takes about a MILLION YEARS to try and remove any nail polish residue with these remover pads.
If I’m going to have the risk of turning into the Wicked Witch of the West with these frustratingly incompetent remover pads, I may as well just stick out the horrible nail look and wait till I get home to take off what’s left with proper polish remover.

I better stop my rant now. I’m feeling myself turn green already.

Well that’s it for my June Favourites!
