TALK ABOUT: ANTM S8EP11

17 Sep

And here comes another week with a brand new episode!
But what…? IT’S THE SECOND LAST EPISODE!

By the end of today, we will know who our final 3 are and who will be in the running to be season 8’s AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL!

CRAAAAZY!

First exciting piece of news:

2 PHOTO SHOOTS!

Second piece of exciting news…

AFRICA BABY!

The girls are shipping straight off to Mauritius, Africa, which is totally exciting because I don’t think I’ve seen ANY season of Next Top Model which has lead the competition to Africa. And let me tell you, I have seen a lot…

Epic house?

Tick.

Crystal blue waters?

Tick!

Hottie judge Didier Cohen??

TICK!

What could be better than that?

Challenge: Walking Under Water

WOWZERS. What an awesome challenge!

The girls are asked to pop a giant bubble on their heads (with oxygen and glass and everything) and tossed into the water to pose pose pose!
Whoever is best at “posing with the fish” and walking under water, wins the challenge.

1st up: Shanali

Fabulously model-esque as always. But really… it’s just because she LOOKS like a model…

2nd up: Abbie

Awkward moves? Definitely.

3rd up: Duckie.

Poor girl. Got too distracting by the colourful fish that she couldn’t concentrate.
Must be an African thing. As she said, they just run fast. Not swim. Might not have gotten used to all the sea-life.

4th up: Melissa.

Well actually she wasn’t 4th up. Or down. Because she didn’t descend to the waters of doom where unimaginably colourful fish would trap her there forever. With Didier. Forever.
… I would’ve gone down there if he was with me!

Friendly Fish

*insert shameless advertising plug of some sort of tablet*

Didier visits the girls at their crib to announce the winner.
And the girl who gets a luxurious body scrub in the midst of their crazy ANTM journey is… SHANALI!

What a surprise…!

PHOTO SHOOT #1: Sci-Fi Mermaid

Theme for today: sci-fi mermaid.

Ariel

Ariel

No idea what that is, but hey it sounds good!

THE Jez Smith is back for another round of breath-taking photos and first up is Melissa!

The first thing I noticed though was the recycling of Alex Perry’s lace up boots from Episode 9. Err Alex… didn’t you have anything else on your shoe racks?

Alex Perry's Lace Ups

Alex Perry’s Lace Ups

Melissa: again… what are you doing. Girl, you need to change it up and you know that! Shame on you for not even working on that.

Abbie: no matter how much I dislike her… she did so well! Besides a bit of the leg spread, she well selling that Goth Mermaid!… I mean Sci Fi Mermaid?

Shanali: whoa whoa whoa she slipped! And what does Jez care about the most right now? The shoes. Shocking. Fashion comes first right?
But she got back into business straight away and rocked the shoot.

Duckie: slow start, but with some reassurance by Jen and Dider that the boots weren’t that precious, she got into it and WHOA. Glow like a goddess girl!

Before we hit the breaks (get it? commercial break?), Jen delivers some letters from the models’ families over a lovely luncheon in the middle of paradise.
Oddly enough, each girl was given another girl’s letter. So that they could read it out. In public. In front of the cameras. So they’d all cry and be filmed.

That’s reality TV for you.

PHOTO SHOOT #2: COLOUR VOMIT

Okay maybe it’s not colour vomit. But it definitely looked like it!
The amount of crazy colours with this styling was clown like.

Duckie: girl friend was really distracted again. A prop trotted on set (a local pet dog) and she couldn’t deal with it professionally. A little bit disappointed to be honest.

Melissa: Little Melissa here made a very interesting comparison between her clothing and those from the Capitol in the Hunger Games.
Spot on? Spot on!

Capitol Hunger Games Fashion

Capitol Hunger Games Fashion

But her performance wasn’t spot on – all she did was flick her hair and didn’t bring anything new to the table.
Odd how Jez suggested hair flicking is an art though. Meh, it’s not that hard.
I do it all the time! *flick*

Shanali: Her task: to strut sidewards and show some great legs for the shot.
Great legs? Tick. Good strut? Not so much.
Shanali couldn’t walk without looking like a drunkard at Kings Cross (google it…). Poor thing look like a giraffe walking for the first time and it wasn’t attractive. But hey, if Jez finally loved it, I guess I’ll love him – I mean her too!

Abbie: Firstly, this is definitely cray cray make up. This girl looked like she got punched in the face. And then again another 3 times from different directions.
Note to self: never self-tan or wear pigmented orange blush.
Otherwise, she was definitely working her gown (if you’d call it a gown).
She’s definitely improved since day 1.

Elimination

Melissa’s pictures weren’t that great. She nailed the hair flick, but meh to the gothic/scifi mermaid.

Duckie’s scifi mermaid blended into the background. But that’s not really her fault… She can’t shine if she’s darker than the dress.
The other image was great. But not a WOWZA.

Abbie: LOVE her mermaid shot! Strong, sexy, LOOOOOOOONG LEGS. Clown/coloured picture…. meh. Not strong. Not sexy (but she did look like an odd ball). Not for me.

Shanali: amazing amazing amazing! I LOVE her mermaid shot!

>> Insert: THANK GOD DIDIER. You’re not only a looker, you’ve got the brains as well! He pointed out that Duckie has been consistently a great model, but Abbie has only had great shots at the end of the season. SO TRUE. You got it dude!

And now for the winner of the episode….

Shanali!

Well that was expected.

The one who’s eliminated though and will not get through to the finale for the public vote is…

*super long cliff hanger*

ABBIE!~

Eliminated: Abbie

Eliminated: Abbie

YESSSSS! Finally! We see eye to eye!

Abbie has been great in the last couple of episodes, but she hasn’t performed well throughout the whole competition, whereas Duckie has been hovered at the top of the mountain throughout the whole of Season 8.

Good choice!

Before I sign off though, it would’ve been better if Melissa and Abbie were in the bottom 2. I don’t think Melissa did that well to be above Duckie. But hey, Duckie got her spot, so I’m not complaining.

That’s it for this post guys!

Tune in next week to see who gets crowned AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL!

TALK ABOUT: Australia’s Next Top Model Season 8, Episode 6! [Lesson: TEAM WORK!]

14 Aug

OK… So I may as well get it out there now.

I am… the BIGGEST FAN of Australia’s Next TOP MODEL!

Not just the Australian version, but the whole entire format!
(<3 Tyra!)

I thought I’d channel this addiction for the show and discuss the episodes as they come – so here goes!

The Challenge

So okay, this episode is all about team work, and if you’ve already seen the show, certain actions are definitely NOT team-work-worthy…

But after watching the episode, I’m a little confused about the challenge that they organised for the girls.
What has painting got to do with team work? To me, that’s a bit of a stretch – seemed like they really wanted to tie in the local landscape with the show, and someone in pre-production just came up with the idea of providing 2 giant canvases that a whole bunch of teenagers can toss paint and dirt on it.

Oh and of course, pick one poor chicky from each team and make them “model” in the same position for 45 minutes. Just to make it more of a “model” challenge.

Overall, challenge was a 6/10. Not interesting and I really didn’t find it was much of a lesson for the models to better themselves. But wait…

20/10 for the scandals that came from it!

Taylah choking Ashley over paint on a shirt? Brilliant! Totally TV worthy.

Tayleh vs Ashley: AusNTM scandal!

Taylah vs Ashley: AusNTM scandal!

Poor Taylah though – getting disqualified and made the ‘bad guy’ on national television. Oh and not to mention all the media that’s come from it – the news articles, the radio interviews and basically a whole stink-up around Australia about reality TV. All because of her.

But it’s definitely made the episode and that boring challenge interesting…!

The Photo-SHOOT!

[Theme: Girls On The Run!]

Check out the pics here!

I. LOVE. THIS. THEME.

Gosh, the outfits, the make up, the strong looks that they had to portray – it was amazing!
And all in pairs!

This definitely did make up for the dodgy challenge that was set for the episode.

Best outfits? I must say I’m loving Madeline’s wrap pleather skirt and Shanali’s overalls. Those were definitely stand out pieces of the photoshoot, and definitely something that I would rip off their bodies and toss onto my own! – that’s if I could fit a size 6.

TREND ALERT: Wrap Skirt

TREND ALERT: Wrap Skirt

Places to find these skirts:

ASOS Wrapped Leather Skirt with Zipper: $135.90AUD

ATMOS&HERE Dagger Leather Look Mini @ The Iconic $79.95AUD

ATMOS&HERE Dagger Leather Look Mini @ The Iconic: $79.95AUD

I’ve always loved this punk/grunge trend and the lasting obsession with pleather/leather has definitely fuelled the livelihood of this look on the market. It’s also going hand-in-hand with the sudden craze of hair chalk. Great idea, and great look, but I would never be bothered to chalk my hair with a different colour every day.

Not that it’ll show up on pitch black hair.

Smokey Eye + Hair Chalk = Latest Punk Trend!

Smokey Eye + Hair Chalk = Latest Punk Trend!

But personally, I’ve never been attached to cut outs and ‘holes’ in clothing.

That’s always been a bit of a borderline… shall I say trashy look??

Don’t get me wrong – women who having rockin’ bods can pull it off. No dramas.
But when you start introducing your every day size 12 woman into the picture, the picture starts to get a little less appealing for those that need to look at it.

Cut outs and holes. Not a great trend.

Cut outs and holes. Not a great trend.

Alright, wear what to want to the next Stereosonic or equivalent music festival. But when it comes to day to day attire, there shouldn’t be a need for extra holes in your shirt. Or cut outs that reduce the amount of material on our top by 50%.

Back to the photoshoot though – who loved the props?

The car? The dilapidated windmill?
They were definitely the best ones that the models could’ve worked with.

Feeling a little bad for Dajana and Shannon who had the awkward clothing line that caused way to many hanging limbs in the picture. And Shanali and Taylah who had NOTHING.

Elimination

So there wasn’t much of an elimination this week.
All the media hype around someone getting disqualified, definitely brought down the level of surprise when the moment aired. And considering they did a double elimination of Brooke and April last week, it wasn’t much of a surprise when they didn’t flick off an extra girl at the end of the episode – especially when it was a battle between Duckie and Melissa. Two of the judges’ favourites!

Looking back at Taylah’s photos right at the end though, it’s not such a bad thing that she got disqualified.
She wasn’t the best out of the bunch, and would’ve eventually left if she kept up the “one-trick-pony”. Same face. Different dress.

Still. There were others that are worse *cough* Abbie *cough*.

Favourite of the Week

Jade. Hands down.

Jade - Favourite of the Week

Jade – Favourite of the Week

Actually, she’s always been a favourite of mine, but this week especially was when she shone!

The outfit fit her perfectly, her poses during the photoshoot, her general attitude? – just top stuff!

Hope she goes through to the end. I really do.
Seems like one good girl who is great at taking direction and mature about criticism.

GOOOOOOOO JADE!

SO.

That’s it for this episode run down.

Love the photo shoot theme. Love the looks and the wardrobe!

Let me know whether this post floats your boat for more critique on Australia’s (and maybe other versions… of) Next Top Model!

April 2013 BELLABOX

21 Apr

Hey guys!

Here’s the April Bellabox 🙂 (Sorry that it’s so close to the March Bellabox… Just wanted to post this whilst it’s relevant!).

See the opening of my Bellabox on Youtube!

This month’s theme is Innovative Beauty!

April Bellabox: Innovative Beauty

April Bellabox: Innovative Beauty

This month’s box is filled with things that I’m really excited about – a nice change to the last couple of month’s!

April Bellabox: Innovative Beauty

April Bellabox: Innovative Beauty

Cellilux Deep Sea Secret Glacial Mineral Gel

Cellilux Deep Sea Secret Glacial Mineral Gel

Cellilux Deep Sea Secret Glacial Mineral Gel

First off we have a product with the world’s longest name…!
This is essentially a face mask that’s supposed to draw out positively charged bacteria and impurities.

Positively charged… that’s new to me. I didn’t know there were positively or negatively charged particles!
Either way, I’m excited to try this simply because I’m looking for a good face mask. Hopefully this will help with my impurities and black heads!

Orofluido Hair Elixir

Orofluido Hair Elixir

Orofluido Hair Elixir

This elixir is apparently jam packed with argan, linseed and cyperus oil, giving your hair silkiness, lightness and shine! And apparently it’s supposed to work on any hair type in any condition.
This will be really good for my hair because I’ve been struggling with dry roots and a dry scalp.

I haven’t previously been too inclined towards using oils since I have oily hair and my skin is oily as well. But argan oil and all these other natural oils are the latest craze! It’s supposed to be really food for all skin and hair types and supposed to provide a nourishment. So… I’m EXCIIIITED!

Indio Multi-V Serum

Indio Multi-V Serum

Indio Multi-V Serum

This serum is supposed to be packed with vitamins A, H & F to keep skin healthy, beautiful and strong. That’s the marketing grab anyway.
I on the other hand I am entranced by the little blue, pink and white balls mixed in the serum! Not sure what they’re for, but it looks really pretty against the clear serum and silver packaging!

I’m also pretty excited about trying this since I just finished my Clinique Pore Minimiser and was looking for another serum to try.

Avene Micellar Lotion

Avene Micellar Lotion

Avene Micellar Lotion

Miracle lotion alert! This Avene Micellar Lotion is supposed to be a 3-1 product: removes make-up, cleanses and tones all at the time whilst not even requiring water to wash the product off!

I’m not sure about the whole “no need to wash after using this product” scheme.
Personally, if I’m trying to take off my make up at the end of the day, I’m thinking that I’d need more than a cotton pad soaked with a lotion. With the residue of the day and left over make-up that’s not mopped up by this lotion, I would normally prefer to give my face a good rinse afterwards.

I’ll give this a go, but I’m not quite the believer at the moment…

Rimmel BB Cream in Medium

Rimmel BB Cream in Medium

Rimmel BB Cream in Medium

With the increase of popularity with BB Creams in Asia, the western market is starting to bring out all sorts of versions of the BB Cream. Rimmel’s BB Cream has an SPF 25, containing 9 different skin properties to help smooth out the skin tone and impurities.

It doesn’t quite list what the 9 skin perfecting properties are, but this BB Cream is supposed to smooth, mattify, illuminate, brighten, minimise pores and protect with SPF.

It’ll be good to try this and compare it to the Asian BB Creams that I have tried, but I’m not sure about the colouring. It looks a little dark for my skin tone…

Lash Card

Lash Card

Lash Card

Now THIS is another product that I’m excited to try!
This has been on the market for awhile, but I haven’t gotten around to getting my hands on it.

Essentially it’s just a piece of cardboard that sits behind your upper or lower lashes to prevent the skin from being stained by the application of mascara.
This is great for anyone who has longer lashes or very curled lashes that might bend back and press onto the eye lid during mascara application.

I… do not have that problem. My lashes point STRAIGHT DOWN – it’s a miracle that eyelash curlers and waterproof mascara can hold onto any curl in my lashes.

I’m more excited to use this for my lower lashes though since when applying mascara, the product tends to get onto the skin beneath my eyes. The card has a small curve and large curve on both sides to fit either to top or bottom of your eye area.

The edges of the card can also help separate lashes and remove clumping from excess mascara!

It can also be a great shield of flaking mascara or any pigments dropping down to the cheek area when loose eye shadows are applied.

I’m evidently going to crack straight into these babies the moment I’m done blogging!

Eylure Naturalites Falsies

Eylure Naturalites

Eylure Naturalites

And last but not least, the April Bellabox had Eylure Naturalites falsies!
YAY! Yet another product that I’m super excited about!

These false lashes are great since they’ve got a nice natural look and volume – unlike some that are marketed as “natural” but looks more drag than anything else…

This set also comes with glue so it’ll be great for anyone that is just starting out on trying false lashes and haven’t got any materials to work with.

Just a note to those who are starting out with falsies: If you have dead set straight lashes like myself, you’ll want to give your lashes a good curl first before you apply any falsies. This will help your lashes curl similarly to the false ones and blend in a whole lot better 🙂

That’s it for the April Bellabox!
Let me know what you guys got and whether you’re happy with your Bellaboxes!

For now though…

Lovelove,

Rean.
