REVIEW: Lust Have It – August 2013 Edition! [Celebration]

6 Sep

Hello hello!
So before I start, I did get this box sent to me.
I am NOT subscribed to LHI (that’s Lust Have It for anyone who couldn’t guess…), but these are all my honest opinions about the box – FO SHO.

Looking at the contents of this box, I’m definitely impressed by the products that were sent through.
In comparison to the June box that I also received from LHI, this is a much better edition – I’m glad they sent me this and showed me that June was most likely just a bit of a miss.

The theme this month is also ‘Celebration’, but judging by the items included in the box, there doesn’t seem to be a real connection…
Pretty random I reckon.

Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator in 200 Pink Light

Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator in 200 Pink Light

Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator in 200 Pink Light

First things first – YAY for full size products!

This came in the box in its original 30ml form – the same as if you’d bought it from a store.
So that’s a giant plus for this edition.

Illuminators are great – they fit majority of skin types and can be used all year round. But since we’re heading into summer here in Australia, it’s definitely a great little plus to have!
On top of that, I personally love Revlon cosmetics. Especially the PhotoReady line, so that’s another tick in the right boxes for me.
But I must say, I did a bit of a swatch on the back of my hand, and I wasn’t overly impressed.

The product is a rosy pink – something you’d expect from the name “pink light”. It has visible silver glitter particles, rather than a pearlescent glow that help catch the light.

When applied, the texture is quite light – which is nice. And when indoors, you can barely see that it’s on your skin.
The moment you try and step outdoors though, you may… just feel like Edward Cullen.

I’m hoping that it could be a bit of a heavy swatch that’s caused all this reflection.
I’ll need to try it out a little more to see how it goes. But overall, it’s great to see a full-size product and Revlon at that.

Revlon Nearly Naked Makeup

Revlon Nearly Naked Makeup

Revlon Nearly Naked Makeup

Another Revlon sample has been thrown into the box. This time the newly released Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation!

This has been released for about a year in the States already, and our US sisters have been raving about this product whilst we turned green with envy.
But ever since it’s hit the shelves here down-under, I’ve been keen to try it out.
So it was a great surprise to find it in this box!

Another great move by Lust Have It: they included samples of 4 different shades (there are 12 available), so anyone who received the box will be able to either find their matching colour or mix a couple of the colours together to test out the foundation first.
Great work! Looking forward to try it.

KMS California Free Shape Shampoo and Conditioner

KMS California Free Shape Shampoo And Conditioner

KMS California Free Shape Shampoo And Conditioner

So it appears that something is missing.

The description card included in the box seems to suggest that both the KMS Shampoo and KMS Conditioner will be available in the box.
But. I only got a shampoo sample…

The actual product sounds pretty promising.
It’s supposed to prep your hair for styling and can help keep the style in place for longer.

It would be great to see whether this works. I’d be the ultimate test with my dead straight hair.
Not even perms keep it curly…

KMS California Free Shape Hot Flex Spray

KMS California Free Shape Hot Flex Spray

KMS California Free Shape Hot Flex Spray

This also looks quite promising – a spray to protect and help keep styling in place whilst still letting hair stay flexible rather than crunchy.
Well that’s what the description is saying anyway.

Unlike the shampoo sample though, this actually looks like a decent size that’ll last a couple of uses to really test out the product.
The shampoo sample on the other hand looks like it’ll only last half a wash.
I don’t really like sachets…

Sinful Colors Nail Enamel

Sinful Colors Nail Enamel

Sinful Colors Nail Enamel

Oh! I’m definitely looking forward to this one!
I’ve heard quite positive feedback from fellow YouTube Gurus, and apparently (according to the description card) it’s long wearing and chip resistant – musts in nail enamel.

I’m quite rough with my nails though. Polishes can last only 2-3 days on my manicures.
So it’ll be good to see whether this is really that ‘long-wearing’ and ‘chip resistant’!

On top of that since it’s a lovely bright pink, I’m loving the colour.

Lush Gorgeous Cream

Lush Gorgeous Cream

Lush Gorgeous Cream

Besides the fact that I can’t open the sample packaging, I’m really excited about trying this product.
Not sure whether I can access it to try it though.

This cream comes in a little black tub, in Lush’s signature black containers and looks to last for 1-2 applications.

Lush is known for their fragrant and natural products. Even if it’s not the best day moisturiser, it’ll be great just based on smell; I’m sure!

La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water

La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water

La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water

Last but not least, Lust Have It has tossed in a couple of very VERY exciting products.

La Roche Posay has taken Australia by STORM!
Everyone is raving about their products right now and all the reviews I have come by are especially loving the Effaclar Duo – a light moisturiser for problem skin.

Even though LHI didn’t include this product in this month’s box, they have included a sample of the Eau Thermale – a thermal spring water that’s soothes sensitive skin and helps with anti-aging.
According to the pamphlet, you can use this as a refresher throughout the day or spray a little after your daily cleanser to tackle the beast of time!

Say what? I’m a little busy showering myself with this thermal mist at the moment.
This post will have to wait till I’m finished making my complexion baby smooth.

La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP

La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP

La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP

Okay maybe I haven’t reverted back to having my past toddler skin yet, but this second La Roche Posay product is too exciting to ignore.

This is supposed to be a lipid-replenishing body balm that offers “24 hours of anti-scratching efficacy”.
It’s used to treat eczema or super dry skin with shea butter to smooth the surface and provide comfort whilst Niacinamide relieves itchiness.

This would be great for the summer time when eczema flares up for me – usually in the areas where sweat accumulates; like the back of my knees or inside my elbows.
But for any ladies out there who have dry skin, not only on your face; this would be great to soothe the irritation.

Overall this month’s box was quite exciting!
There are quite a few items that I’d really love to try and hopefully you’ll see some reviews coming up, or mentions in my favourites! *fingers crossed*

Regarding value, I’m personally still not convinced that this edition or the subscription in general is worth $20.
Especially since there is a cheaper option on the market.

The Revlon PhotoReady Illuminator being a full-size, makes up for the price of the box already, But I find that inconsistency tends to be an issue with this subscription.

Based on the June edition, I would not have subscribed. Simple as that.
But this month’s box is steering my impressions in a good direction. I guess I’ll need to sit back and see if it’s worth the money after a couple more months.

If you are interested though, you can always just sign up to a 1-month subscription and use the coupon code “REAN” to get $5 off your first box.

You may like the box for yourself!

For now though, I bid my adieu!

Lovelove,

Rean.

August 2013 Favourites!

29 Aug

With another month gone by, here’s another post about my August Favourites! (And not so favourites…)

Check out my YouTube video, if you’re into watching rather than reading.
And don’t forget to subscribe!!

Starting with the positive

Favourites

Lancome Tresor Midnight Rose

So bare with me whilst I describe a perfume for the very first time.

This scent is sweet, bordering on sticky (like honey) with fruity notes under all that sugar.
Something comparable to a chocolate strawberry that lifts you up into the clouds with Katy Perry…!

I personally love sweet and floral scents, so of course I fell in love with this perfume.
Also, Emma Watson endorses this product – she was the face of the campaign, sot that’s an extra 10xmillion points added to the tally.

This might be a little strong for anyone that prefers a light perfume throughout the day. But it’s definitely perfume for a night out with your man (or man to be).
I myself wear this on a daily basis though. I just can’t get enough of it!

Beauty Blender

So before we get into the “screaming-fan-girl” mode, I just want to point out that this is definitely expensive for what it is.
Er… $30+ for a couple of foundation sponges is ridiculous. Even if they’re amazing.

Now. On to the mini-review.

*cue screaming fan girl*

This is the BOMB-DIGIDY. Fo’ sho this is expensive, but it definitely lives up to the hype of flawless coverage.
It’s easy to use and easy to clean (just introduce some water and soup, then rub); and blends foundation like a charm.

A couple of things to note though:

  • It does thin out the foundation. So when a normal thicker foundation gives you medium to full coverage with another foundation applicator, the beauty blender will only apply it on as medium coverage.
Of course though, you could opt-in to adding on a second layer. But then that’s time consuming and annoying.
Which leads me on to my next point.
  • It takes AT LEAST 1.5 times longer to apply foundation, than any other applicator. Any that I’ve tried anyway.
It’s extremely tedious to continuously bounce the sponge against the surface of your face. And by the time you get through the whole face, that’s just forever.

Besides that though, I’m TOTALLY LOVING THIS.

Revlon PhotoReady Bronzer: Bronzed and Chic

I’m pretty sure this has been on a past favourites list before, but I’m loving it especially this month.
Reason being, I’m using a foundation that’s lighter than the rest of my body, so I need to match it up to the rest of my skin tone.
Not sure why it’s so light though, considering we’re in winter here…

This bronzer isn’t very pigmented, so that’s actually great for anyone wanting to opt-in for more of a natural wash of colour.
There are also 4 different shades of the bronzer – a quad of a bronzer if you will.

A lighter orange undertone in the top left, a lighter bronze with dark pink undertones in the top right.
The bottom 2 are darker versions of the top, with the lightest to darkest arranged in a clock-wise direction.

With this, it suits any needs of bronzing; whether you need a lighter or darker colour.

Australis Make Up Finishing Spritz

This is definitely another repeat favourite. I hope you’re not getting bored?
But seriously, this is good stuff!

This finishing spritz helps keep foundation on for longer and reduces the amount of slipping and sliding – all my oily skin sisters know what I’m talking about!

But this month, I’ve been trying to use up all my little foundation samples, and some have been sitting in my drawers for awhile, so they’ve started to dry up.
To battle the dry consistency, I just spritz a little bit of this after I apply the base and concealer to increase moisture, and then again after my setting powder to set the final look!

Alright, I’m done ranting. Moving on… sorry.

Revlon Lip Butter in Plum

So we all know how amazing these lip butters can be. Affordable, moisturising and comes in a ridiculous amount of colours that are sheer enough for a “light day look” but pigmented though to make a difference.

What I’m really loving this month is specifically the “Plum” shade.
it’s a pretty dark mauve – more purple than pink when you look at it from the bullet or swatch it on your hand.
When it’s applied to the lips though, the pink of my lips bring back the mauve and presents a beautiful magenta shade that is great for my skin tone.

So for relatively pale ladies out there with yellow undertones, take this baby out for a test drive. I’m sure you’ll love it!

The Body Shop Strawberry Body Wash

OH GOD. Thank you. No. THE BODY SHOP. Thank YOU.
This body wash smells ridiculously amazing!

If you’ve come across The Body Shop products before, you’ll know what I mean.
This body wash has the most delicious, sweet smell of strawberries that makes you want to sing whilst in the shower!
The lather that builds up from this body wash is simply heavenly. And a little goes a long way.

It’s so good, you’ll never want it to end.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo

I’m sure you’ve all been hearing the hype about this product. If you haven’t, you’re either not on the right social networking groups, or you live under a rock.

This has been raved about ridiculously and is appearing on every girl’s wish list.
In the recent 40% off skincare sale at Priceline, my local store was left with barren and beaten shelves where once this product stood…

There was no way I could’ve gotten my hands on one of these, if I wanted to avoid a pack of raging hyenas that once were friendly women.
But I found a sample in my draw from a Bellabox a couple of months ago. And the angels sang…

Okay, I guess it wasn’t that dramatic. But I do not kid you, after using this product twice, the blackheads on my face has visibly reduced.

I haven’t been able to try it for longer since I only have a small smple of this goodness.
But I’m pretty sure that when I get around to having a full-size version, I’m going to start looking like Miranda Kerr!

Just sayin’.

Orofluido Beauty Elixir

Here’s my last favourite of the month, the Orofluido Beauty Elixir hair oil!

I’ve never tried hair oils prior to this, assuming that it’ll be a disaster for my already oily hair.
After a lot of great reviews on hair oils though, I decided to give this a try. And lo’ and behold, it is amazing!

After using this product, my hair feels extremely soft and silky, and doesn’t have an oily residue (not even on my hands)!
I’ve also noticed that it helps with my dry scalp and keeps my hair feeling cleaner and fresher for longer.

Also, another plus is a little goes a long way. A small amount drizzled onto the tip of my finger can blend and hydrate my shoulder length hair.

Ladies, hair oil is definitely worth looking into.
Take the plunge!

Misses

Maybelline Baby Lips

So… I might lose some viewers. And you might be scrolling down to type up some hate mail in the comments section below.
But I really am not enjoying my Maybelline Baby Lips this month.

This has been the one and only Baby Lips I’ve tried – the Anti-Oxidant Berry. So that might be a contributing factor.
Maybe it’s a dud.
But excuses aside, this lip balm just isn’t doing it for me!

When applied, the formula is so greasy that I look like I have an oil-slick on my lips.
Though there’s really no colour, the amount of product that transfers to my lips in one swipe is impossible. Making the concentrated product look white, and hence making me look dead.

Granted there’s a nice berry smell to the balm, but that doesn’t justify the ghostly slick that also comes with it. And on top of everything, I haven’t found it to be very moisturising at all; defeating the purpose of a balm.

If I needed to describe the texture, I would say it’s TOO buttery.
if that’s possible.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

I’ve used up a couple of these, and I still don’t think it’s done much for my hair.

Not only does it give me a white cast that can’t be brushed or blended in, it doesn’t really keep my hair fresh throughout the whole of the second day, post-wash.

I love the scents of the products. Definitely a plus. Oh that and the affordable price.
But then it doesn’t really work for me, so technically it’s not that affordable if you think about it…

There’s better dry shampoos out there.

Garnier Heat Styling Spray

Effectiveness-wise, I’m sure this product works.

I didn’t feel my hair get any drier and more brittle when I used this before heat styling, so I guess it’s done its job at protecting my hair.
But the nozzle of the bottle is horrible!

There’s only one spray setting, which is a strong linear spray rather than a mist. Which means that the product is concentrated on certain areas of your hair and you’ll need to go through the trouble of massaging it into the rest of your hair to disperse the product.

Plus, as mentioned, I didn’t notice a difference in the state of my hair. So even if it’s working, it’s just maintaining rather than improving my hair condition.
And I’m sure there are other products out there that do both.

Clinique Lash Power Mascara

We all know how much I love Clinique, so it really pains me when something I try from the brand is bad.
Well my heart is aching because this is one of those cases.

This mascara lengthens – but not very much.
This mascara volumizes – but not that intensely.
And it also clumps – which is not cool.

Overall, if you take away the clumping, it’s an alright mascara after a couple of coats.
It extends my lashes a little and makes them bold, so my eyes are framed and more striking.
The problem though is the clumping.

It’s ridiculous, the amount of care and caution I use to apply this mascara to reduce clumping.
It’s a pain in the butt.
It also takes a light year to try and separate the damage with a fresh spoolie. Which only reduces the clumping a little might I add.

If all these precautions and steps aren’t taken, I’m left with about 5 lashes per eye.
With these steps, I end up with about 8.

So that’s it for my August Favourites guys!
Thanks for sticking around and let me know whether you want me to do any in-depth reviews on the above products or anything else!

February 2013 HITS AND MISSES!

14 Mar

Hi guys!

It’s a little late in the month of March to finally be putting this up online, but I wanted to share my 2 cents on my favourite and not so favourite products of February!
You might notice that this month I’ve titled my post “hits and misses” rather than “favourites”. Well… this is because a couple of make up items disappointed me THAT much that I needed to talk about them…

So keep on scrolling to see what they are!

Favourites:

EmerginC Earth Hydrating Phytelene Cream

EmerginC Earth Hydrating Phytelene Cream

EmerginC Earth Hydrating Phytelene Cream

I am LOVING this moisturiser! I have always stayed away from most hydrating moisturisers because I had the impression that they would make my oily skin break out. BUT. I have recently noticed that my skin was looking very tired. So after finding this in one of my Bellaboxes (November I think…), I decided to give it a go and WOW, the results were amazing!

My skin was looking much more plump and hydrated the next day. It gave me the boost I really needed and brightened my overall complexion, making me seem wide awake – even if I was asleep on my feet!

This is a miracle product people. *ahem* let me announce my FIRST HOLY GRAIL! So amazing that it’s hit the top of my charts and is being framed in 16K gold as we speak.

Clinique Even Skin Tone Moisturiser

Clinique Even Skin Tone Moisturizer SPF 20

Clinique Even Skin Tone Moisturizer SPF 20

Evidently I was experimenting with skin care during the month of February, and that didn’t bring the best of looks when break outs occurred. But my oh my I found another amazing moisturiser.

Whilst the EmerginC moisturiser was great for the occasional hydrating boosts, I didn’t want to have that as a daily treatment as at the end of the day it was for “dry” skin types. Excessive use could’ve created a great big mess with my oily skin (plus it’s super expensive – something like $109 for 50ml! So spacing out the use would be smart).

I found this tucked away in a Clinique gift pack I purchased online during Christmas and pulled it out to see what it could do for my skin. I suffer hyper pigmentation due to acne scarring, so the thought an “even skin tone” treatment was tempting. I had previously tried the Clinique Dark Spot Treatment Serum though and that didn’t do anything for my skin. So I was a little skeptical of this product.

But this moisturiser really does do the job! After all the break outs I’ve been experiencing last month, I was left with plenty of dark acne spots to experiment on. But after daily application of this moisturiser, my skin tone really has evened out and where there was redder patches of skin has now completely faded! I’m halfway through the jar so hopefully the results will continue by the end of it. But so far I am loving it!

I’ve also noticed that after using this moisturiser, my face hasn’t been as oily throughout the day. After about 5 hours with foundation, my face would become a slick of oil – enough for any make up to slide off. This moisturiser though must have restored the levels of hydration in my skin, making it produce less oils to compensate for my constant “oil-free” products. Amazing!

I love Clinique 🙂

Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden

Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden

Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden

Now onto some eye products. We already all know who, what and how amazing Urban Decay Primer Potions are. If you don’t… then get yourself out from underneath that rock. Because this eye primer is amazing! It works especially well on oily lids (i.e. me), and even though it is high end and much more pricey than anything you might find in a Priceline/drug store, it is worth it.

With barely any product squeezed onto the smallest surface of your finger, you can effectively prime the whole of your lid and also your bottom lash line. But that’s not all! With the Primer Potion in Eden, the nude colour conceals any redness of the lid that isn’t covered when applying foundation. This gives the lid a really nice neutral base before shadow application, or even just evening out the skin tone under simple liner and mascara!

Random note: this is not a sponsored blog post. I’m just freaking out because all these products have made my wildest dreams come true…

Revlon Custom Eyes Shadow & Liner in Sweet Innocence

Revlon Custom Eyes Shadow & Liner in Sweet Innocence

Revlon Custom Eyes Shadow & Liner in Sweet Innocence

Okay I’m not crazy about this whole palette, but the 2nd shade from the left is perfect! Not sure what the name of this is – or whether you can get it individually…
I tried to find it at my local Priceline but it seems like it only comes in the palette.

This is the perfect peach/pink shade for blending. When you’re trying for a less dramatic look and want to simply blend out those first 2 colours without adding in anything too intense, this is the perfect shade.

Simply the best shadow to soften the edges – what more can I say??

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm in Chunky Cherry

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizer Lip Colour Balm in Chunky Cherry

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizer Lip Colour Balm in Chunky Cherry

Now for the lips. It’s not only Chunky Cherry that I love; this whole Chubby Stick range is amazing!

I’ve always had this unavoidable dry lip that nothing seemed to work on! It’s not excessively dry but I’d always been able to spot some peeling and cracked lips here and there – and when you’re trying to put on lip colour, it’s always a chore to make it look presentable!

Lip balm: check. Lip moisturisers: check. Exfoliators: check. Even Lucas’ Paw Paw Ointment???: CHECK.

Everything I have tried so far does nothing. But these Chubby Sticks on the other hand have been god sent…
After one day of application, not only does it leave you with moisturised plump lips, you also have a really nice splash of sheer colour that show off your new lips.

Only problem is, it’s quite pricey…

Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Fruitti

Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Fruitti

Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Fruitti

Though this lip butter is a cult favourite, I don’t find it as great with moisturisation as the Clinique Chubby Sticks.
It’s nice and all – great packaging, price and a great range of colours. But I still prefer those Chubbys.

I must say though, I’m really warming to the shade Tutti Fruiti from this range. I find myself reaching for this shade every time I’m sporting a colour appropriate outfit.
And I really do love the packaging…

Misses:

Now for the disappointments that have cause this series to go from “Favourites” to “Hits and Misses”…

*Queue: disapproving silence*

Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector

Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector

Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector

I had high hopes for this one. Clinique, my best friend in the world of beauty products had never let me down before.
Sure there were some moments when I though we had differences. Some products that didn’t work too well for my skin and complexion issues. But we were still the best of friends.

But oh how you have disappointed me so!

After ignoring a friend’s protests that this product did not work for her, I went ahead anyway and spent my life savings to get my hands on a bottle of these.
I hurriedly tore through my package when I saw it in the mail and my eyes lit up like stars in the night sky.

Halfway through the bottle I see no difference… Maybe it takes some time to kick in?

3/4 of the way through… still no difference. Maybe I have a dud bottle!

When I finished the whole bottle, my heart sank. Still no difference.

I have found the first major flaw from Clinique and am now recommending others to try anything else before this.
Try the L’Oreal Youth Code Luminosity Serum I reviewed on. Try the Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Moisturiser I wrote about earlier. Both worked amazing for me and surely will help anyone else who has the same problem of hyper-pigmentation. But save your dimes and save your pride by turning away from this product.

We’re still friends Clinique, but from this moment they’ll be a constant shadow of doubt that I won’t be able to shake off.

Clinique Aromatics Elixir

Clinique Aromatics Elixir

Clinique Aromatics Elixir

Okay so maybe I was being a little dramatic just then. And maybe Clinique disappointed me more than once. But this might not be a disappointment for everyone – I’m just not someone who likes to smell like musk. Or a toilet.

I received a sample of this elixir along with all the other items I bought from Clinique over the holiday season, and was excited to try it on. But WOW, the moment I pumped a couple of sprays of this perfume, I felt like I was transported to the closest public restroom.

Nothing more to be said. It’s just sitting on my bathroom bench now, waiting to be picked up and tossed into the bin.

Another disappointment Clinique. But you never know, someone out there might be really into the wafts of fragrant public restrooms…

That’s all for my February favourites!
Hope you found a couple of things here interesting, and hopefully I motivated or deterred any choices that could’ve gone horribly wrong!

I was planning on putting together an empties post, but considering I only finished a couple of products, that would’ve made for boring news.

JANUARY 2013 FAVOURITES!

1 Feb

Hi guys!

I’m really excited about today’s post – it’s my first “favourites” post EVER.
I haven’t been trying many new items lately. Been quite caught up with Christmas, New Years and my birthday (yay for me!). So all my favourites this month will be….

*drum roll*

…tools of the trade: Make Up Brushes!

Sigma Essentials Brushes: Mrs Bunny!

Sigma Essentials Brushes: Mrs Bunny!

Apologies if they look a little dirty… I hadn’t washed them before the photo!

Besides the fact that they have the most adorable name: Sigma Essentials Kit – Mrs Bunny, these brushes really are as soft and as amazing as everyone’s been raving about.
Up until the introduction of Sigma to my life, I’ve been putting up with harsh, prickly brushes that’s had bristles fall out left right and centre. But after getting these in the mail, my make up application process has been better than ever!

My favourites from this kit:

Sigma Brush: F50 Duo Fibre

Sigma Brush: F50 Duo Fibre

The F50 Duo Fibre brush is perfect for foundation application. Though the feeling was odd at first as I’ve only ever used the traditional foundation brush, the F50 really made the finished look flawless and airbrushed. Not only was it making me feel completely refreshed about make up, I was taking on a more positive look towards my previously “cakey” foundations.

Definitely a lifesaver.

Another favourite from the Sigma Kit is the E55 Eye Shading brush.

Sigma Essential Kit - Mrs Bunny: E55 Eye Shading Brush

Sigma Essential Kit – Mrs Bunny: E55 Eye Shading Brush

My eyelid space is only so limited and as I don’t like bringing darker eye shadow shades too high up towards the brow, this E55 brush is the perfect tool for both increased shading and blending.

After testing the E40 Tapered Blending brush within the same kit against this E55, I definitely prefer the stiff and short bristles for a more controlled blend.

Now for another brush favourite that’s NOT apart of the Sigma collection (I’m was brush-happy last month!).

Ecotools Blush Brush

Ecotools Blush Brush

This Ecotools Blush Brush has brought me towards loving cheek cosmetics even more!

Not only is it soft and durable without any bristle-loss or damage, the cruelty-free and recycled handle is a great way to help the environment.

You can get this brush at Priceline for $16.99 – but WAIT (*sales pitch*), I’ve just checked the website and they’re having a 20% off sale. Which makes the brush now $13.59 for a limited time only!
If you’re outside of Australia, Ecotools distribute to quite a few international locations. So just check their official website and see whether you can spot your country on the list.

I must say though, I’m VERY jealous of those who live in the States. Why is everything so much cheaper there?!?

Ecotools is selling this same Blush Brush in America for $6.99USD. If you compare the current exchange rate between Australian dollars and US dollars, I would’ve saved more than $10 just to get the same brush!

Must schedule a trip to the states sometime soon and bring back a great big haul of products.

But for now, I must stay in Australia where prices are inflated and products limited…

Lovelove,

Rean!

REVIEW: Foundation/Concealer Update

21 Jan

Time for another review!

I’ve been recently buying a couple of new complexion related products – foundations, BB creams and concealers. There’s a couple that have struck me with either strong positive or negative thoughts. So please see below for an update on what I’ve found!

Revlon Colorstay: Fresh Beige

Revlon Colorstay: Fresh Beige

After hearing plenty of good reviews and raves about the Revlon Colorstay foundation, I decided to pick up a bottle at my local Target whilst it was on sale.

Though I bought the wrong colour – Fresh Beige is too light for my current tanned complexion, after using it for a long day it definitely did what it was made for! After a 19 hours, my foundation was still sitting strong on my face. I had blotted my face a couple of times and still there was no disturbance to the look and consistency of the formula. And considering it was a record breaking 45 degree heat in Sydney (that’s 113 Fahrenheit!), it didn’t budge at all!

The only problem I found was the lack of oil control. I have very oily skin especially around the T-Zone, and this foundation didn’t help to reduce that at all. I’ve yet to find a foundation that does control oil any better than my current products, so please do drop a suggestion if you know of one.
But nevertheless, Revlon Colorstay did exceed expectations with it’s staying power!

Another thing I noticed was the consistency. It’s quite a fluid liquid foundation rather than having a thicker formula, which was great to apply to the face. I find that when using a thicker formula with a stippling brush, the time it takes to blend in the foundation and make it flawless increases dramatically to the point of annoyance!

Revlon Colorstay was definitely fluid enough to make the application process very easy.

This foundation beats the current one I have been hanging onto – The Body Shop, Oil Free foundation.

The Body Shop: Oil Free Balancing Foundation in #2.

The Body Shop: Oil Free Balancing Foundation in #2.

Apologies for the messiness of the bottle in the image. This tube has been with me for awhile.

This foundation not only comes in a very thick formula, it settles into the lines of your skin throughout the day and does NOT help with oil control at all. Coverage isn’t bad and I would describe it as medium to full – same as the Revlon Colorstay foundation above. But it’s definitely a far cry from the results received from Revlon, considering the dear price.

I would not recommend this foundation at all unless you’d like to go for something that doesn’t work too well… but then you’ll be able to find plenty of those with a much lighter price tag.

Maybelline New York: Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

Maybelline New York: Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

Another complexion product I’ve recently picked up is the Maybelline New York: Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer. WOW. That was a mouthful.

I’ve heard SO MUCH about this concealer from Youtubers and through the great vine, so I had to try it when there was a sale at Priceline.

With sky high expectations, I sponged this product all along my dark eye circles hoping to find a miracle in a bottle. But what I experienced was an enhancement of my flaws!
My fine lines were much more obvious and my circles weren’t lighter at all. In fact the product made my lower eye area very cakey, causing more attention to be drawn than before!

I’m not sure why so many people love it – if there’s a specific way to use the product please let me know. It might be a case of a confused consumer. But by using it the only way I can figure out how, I don’t find good results at all.

It’s actually made it onto my “never ever ever getting back together” list – and I’m sure Taylor Swift will agree with me on this one!

I don’t know – try it if you guys want. It’s not very expensive so you won’t be losing out on much. But I definitely didn’t have a good experience with it. So I suggest giving this a go last if you can’t find anything else you’d like to test first.

Well that’s it for my complexion products update. I have purchased a few other things that fall into this category, but none of them have been notable enough to spend time writing a review on. Either that or I haven’t gotten around to trying it yet.

I will post any updates if any of the above opinions change.

And if you have any suggestions on oil controlling foundations or any comments about the products and reviews above, please drop in a line below and let me know you thoughts!

For now though…

Talk About: 2013. New Year, New Commitments!

19 Jan

Hi guys!

Sorry it’s been so long! When was the last time that I blogged… I’m afraid to check.

We’re well and truly into a new year and things have definitely started out at a quick pace! Only 19 days in and already I feel as though Christmas and New Years happened so long ago.

With the start of the new year, I’ve committed myself to responsibility and stepping up my game – both work and personal lives!

I’ve realised that blogging not only requires interest and passion, but also commitment and tender loving care. I tried to take a quick “break” from it all to prepare for the end of 2012 and next thing you know, we’re already one year ahead.
So please. If any of you love my blogs enough to send through a quick comment or note about my LACK OF POSTS! that’ll definitely help jolt me into action 🙂

Okay now for the fun part: new years’ resolution!

I’ve never been much of a person to set goals for the new year. I’m not too sure why – never thought to challenge myself that way maybe?
But this year – 2013 – it’ll be different.

My new years resolution will be to focus on health and wellbeing. And actually DO what I want to do rather than brush it off with an “I’m too busy”.

Do you find that? That you’re always “too busy” to clean up your room. You’re always too “busy” to tidy up your make up collection. Or you’re always “way too preoccupied” with other things that you can’t start on that hobby activity you’ve been thinking about for ages?

Well it’s all going to change this year!

Back to blogging: I’ll try to post fortnightly at first – start with a realistic goal! And update you guys on what I’ve tried or what I’ve bought!

If you have any suggestions on anything I should test out – maybe a foundation for my oily skin, or simply a long lasting eye shadow! Please drop me a comment and I’ll make sure to feature it if everything goes to plan!

Coming up in the next few months:

  • My latest foundation/complexion products I’ve tried. There’s definitely a couple in there that are well recommended by Youtubers and bloggers alike! Thought I’d give it a try to see whether they really work wonders.
  • My weight loss journey. I’ve always struggled with my weight. That’s trying to keep it off rather than trying to put it on. But ever since I’ve started to watch what I eat and work on exercising my body, I have lost 15KGS since MARCH 2012!
Personally I think that’s a fantastic achievement so far. But as I’m currently still sitting within the overweight range according to my BMI, I still have quite a way to go.Hopefully by documenting what I have done and what I will be trying to achieve, these posts will help anyone out there that’s also experiencing the same problems!
  • Notables and Empties.
Just the usual. What I tried, what I loved, what I finished and what I could NOT stand…

Let me know if you have any other topics you’d like me to delve into – Tags, reviews, thoughts. Just drop me a line and I’ll definitely try to make it happen!
But for now…

Talk About: Skin Care Routine

3 Nov

Hi all,

I wanted to share with you my current skin care routine to both show how I’m tackling my troubled skin and also see whether any of you have suggestions for me to improve on.
Because that’s what it’s all about isn’t it? Sharing is caring! 😄

To say the least my skin is oily. And this isn’t the subtle sheen at 3pm on a hot day – this is the real deal.
Not only is my skin ridiculously oily, I’ve also been battling with excessive acne for over 7 years. It has only been recently that I’ve found the products that work best for my skin.

Here’s a little history: I’ve always had troubles with acne and the constant wash of oil on my face. It was using the Tea Tree Oil range from The Body Shop for quite a while but noticed that even though I’d only break out occasionally, I was still sporting oil and sebum deposits under the surface of my skin, making it bumpy.

It was then that I went to a Dermologica workshop that made me feel as though all hope was not lost! I paid about $200AUD for a whole range or products but when I started using it, my acne became completely uncontrollable!

For a system that apparently maps out your face into 12 regions to provide the best solution and is apparently “engineered by dedicated dermatologists”, its caused the worst my skin has ever experienced.

I’ll not go into too much detail in case I bring your Halloween visions to life. But essentially my face was left with large amounts of scarring and acne like I’ve never experienced.

I then started my journey of recovery with the following skin care brands, all using the acne skin care systems.
First Mary Kay, then Proactiv, and now finally Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions.

This could be the reason why I’m so faithful to Clinique. Because it was the skin care system that brought me from acne to clear skin. I now only ever find blemishes if I’m going through stress, or am about to enter my menstrual cycle – and these breakouts are very minimal might I add.

So now for what I was originally going to talk about… My Skin Care Routine:

In the mornings I use:
1. Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam
2. Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clarifying Lotion
3. Lancôme Genifique Yeux Youth Activating Eye Concentrate
4. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel

At night I have a very similar routine, except I just add on some Clinique Pore Minimizer to work whilst I sleep.

For any blemishes, I’m currently using Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Spot Treatment Gel.

I must say again, this Anti-Blemish routine has worked wonders for me. It has been the only product that has allowed me to step away from my house without make up. I am now confident about my naked face and use much less foundation than than I used to.

Concealer? I forget about that now.

I’m keen to try different eye creams for prevention and dark circles. I haven’t used the Lancôme Eye Concentrate for too long yet so I’m not sure whether it works well for me. And I’m also happy to try different spot treatments as i find the Clinique Spot Gel isn’t as effective as other brands I’ve tried previously.

Besides that all I need now is to work a little on the dark spots left behind from my acne history. I will be trying the Clinique Even Better Dark Spots Corrector. Hopefully that’ll show some results!

If you have any other suggestions on how I can rectify extremely oily skin or my dark acne scars, then please comment below!

But for now…

Love love, Rean.
