TALK ABOUT: ANTM S8EP11

17 Sep

And here comes another week with a brand new episode!
But what…? IT’S THE SECOND LAST EPISODE!

By the end of today, we will know who our final 3 are and who will be in the running to be season 8’s AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL!

CRAAAAZY!

First exciting piece of news:

2 PHOTO SHOOTS!

Second piece of exciting news…

AFRICA BABY!

The girls are shipping straight off to Mauritius, Africa, which is totally exciting because I don’t think I’ve seen ANY season of Next Top Model which has lead the competition to Africa. And let me tell you, I have seen a lot…

Epic house?

Tick.

Crystal blue waters?

Tick!

Hottie judge Didier Cohen??

TICK!

What could be better than that?

Challenge: Walking Under Water

WOWZERS. What an awesome challenge!

The girls are asked to pop a giant bubble on their heads (with oxygen and glass and everything) and tossed into the water to pose pose pose!
Whoever is best at “posing with the fish” and walking under water, wins the challenge.

1st up: Shanali

Fabulously model-esque as always. But really… it’s just because she LOOKS like a model…

2nd up: Abbie

Awkward moves? Definitely.

3rd up: Duckie.

Poor girl. Got too distracting by the colourful fish that she couldn’t concentrate.
Must be an African thing. As she said, they just run fast. Not swim. Might not have gotten used to all the sea-life.

4th up: Melissa.

Well actually she wasn’t 4th up. Or down. Because she didn’t descend to the waters of doom where unimaginably colourful fish would trap her there forever. With Didier. Forever.
… I would’ve gone down there if he was with me!

Friendly Fish

Friendly Fish

*insert shameless advertising plug of some sort of tablet*

Didier visits the girls at their crib to announce the winner.
And the girl who gets a luxurious body scrub in the midst of their crazy ANTM journey is… SHANALI!

What a surprise…!

PHOTO SHOOT #1: Sci-Fi Mermaid

Theme for today: sci-fi mermaid.

Ariel

Ariel

No idea what that is, but hey it sounds good!

THE Jez Smith is back for another round of breath-taking photos and first up is Melissa!

The first thing I noticed though was the recycling of Alex Perry’s lace up boots from Episode 9. Err Alex… didn’t you have anything else on your shoe racks?

Alex Perry's Lace Ups

Alex Perry’s Lace Ups

Melissa: again… what are you doing. Girl, you need to change it up and you know that! Shame on you for not even working on that.

Abbie: no matter how much I dislike her… she did so well! Besides a bit of the leg spread, she well selling that Goth Mermaid!… I mean Sci Fi Mermaid?

Shanali: whoa whoa whoa she slipped! And what does Jez care about the most right now? The shoes. Shocking. Fashion comes first right?
But she got back into business straight away and rocked the shoot.

Duckie: slow start, but with some reassurance by Jen and Dider that the boots weren’t that precious, she got into it and WHOA. Glow like a goddess girl!

Before we hit the breaks (get it? commercial break?), Jen delivers some letters from the models’ families over a lovely luncheon in the middle of paradise.
Oddly enough, each girl was given another girl’s letter. So that they could read it out. In public. In front of the cameras. So they’d all cry and be filmed.

That’s reality TV for you.

PHOTO SHOOT #2: COLOUR VOMIT

Okay maybe it’s not colour vomit. But it definitely looked like it!
The amount of crazy colours with this styling was clown like.

Duckie: girl friend was really distracted again. A prop trotted on set (a local pet dog) and she couldn’t deal with it professionally. A little bit disappointed to be honest.

Melissa: Little Melissa here made a very interesting comparison between her clothing and those from the Capitol in the Hunger Games.
Spot on? Spot on!

Capitol Hunger Games Fashion

Capitol Hunger Games Fashion

But her performance wasn’t spot on – all she did was flick her hair and didn’t bring anything new to the table.
Odd how Jez suggested hair flicking is an art though. Meh, it’s not that hard.
I do it all the time! *flick*

Shanali: Her task: to strut sidewards and show some great legs for the shot.
Great legs? Tick. Good strut? Not so much.
Shanali couldn’t walk without looking like a drunkard at Kings Cross (google it…). Poor thing look like a giraffe walking for the first time and it wasn’t attractive. But hey, if Jez finally loved it, I guess I’ll love him – I mean her too!

Abbie: Firstly, this is definitely cray cray make up. This girl looked like she got punched in the face. And then again another 3 times from different directions.
Note to self: never self-tan or wear pigmented orange blush.
Otherwise, she was definitely working her gown (if you’d call it a gown).
She’s definitely improved since day 1.

Elimination

Melissa’s pictures weren’t that great. She nailed the hair flick, but meh to the gothic/scifi mermaid.

Duckie’s scifi mermaid blended into the background. But that’s not really her fault… She can’t shine if she’s darker than the dress.
The other image was great. But not a WOWZA.

Abbie: LOVE her mermaid shot! Strong, sexy, LOOOOOOOONG LEGS. Clown/coloured picture…. meh. Not strong. Not sexy (but she did look like an odd ball). Not for me.

Shanali: amazing amazing amazing! I LOVE her mermaid shot!

>> Insert: THANK GOD DIDIER. You’re not only a looker, you’ve got the brains as well! He pointed out that Duckie has been consistently a great model, but Abbie has only had great shots at the end of the season. SO TRUE. You got it dude!

And now for the winner of the episode….

Shanali!

Well that was expected.

The one who’s eliminated though and will not get through to the finale for the public vote is…

*super long cliff hanger*

ABBIE!~

Eliminated: Abbie

Eliminated: Abbie

YESSSSS! Finally! We see eye to eye!

Abbie has been great in the last couple of episodes, but she hasn’t performed well throughout the whole competition, whereas Duckie has been hovered at the top of the mountain throughout the whole of Season 8.

Good choice!

Before I sign off though, it would’ve been better if Melissa and Abbie were in the bottom 2. I don’t think Melissa did that well to be above Duckie. But hey, Duckie got her spot, so I’m not complaining.

That’s it for this post guys!

Tune in next week to see who gets crowned AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL!

TALK ABOUT: Australia’s Next Top Model S8E7 [RUNWAY WALK!]

21 Aug

And here we go again! Another episode of Australia’s Next Top Model!
I don’t think I have ever put up another post so close to my last – I hope this continues!

First off, we get introduced to the “lesson” of the week.

Lesson of the Week: Runway Walk!

walk

This is the first time throughout the season, where we get to properly check out whether these girls are strutting like top models, or stumbling down like a mad bull.

Each of ’em ladies had to strut their stuff for one for the designers of Manning Cartel and Jen Hawks.
And whilst these lovely high-profilers judged them, little insignificant me did a little critiquing too.

– Abbie: Girl, stop swinging your hips. You’re exaggerating your walk too much.

– Duckie: Stop stomping! Anyone can hear you from a mile away!

– Dajana: I love you. You’ll never be at fault in my books.

– Ashley:… er…. are you trying to look a little stupid? Stop it with the hands. You’re getting a one way ticket to arm-cramps.

– Jade: I love you too, but you look like you’re sleep walking.

– Shanali: I’m really not a fan… you are just all-round boring.

– Shannon: You look great! Just might need a little brushing up.

– Melissa: Looking like a pony trotting down the runway…

Now just to add a little drama to the episode, Ashley the sook does it again.

Girl, you’re trouble. Stop whinging and wipe up those tears with a mop of maturity.
You make for great TV, but you’re not great for my hair – it’s falling out with frustration!

For a potential model to have a whinge about some critique is a little… silly.
Suck it up babe. If you want to keep travelling down that career path, you better start loving some negative comments.

NOW ONTO THE CHALLENGE! *squeal*

Challenge: Who will be the F-A-C-E of Colgate Optic White?

acp-399_1z

WOWOWOWOW. Say what? The f-a-c-e of Colgate Optic White?
So early into the competition?

This is an epic prize. Even if whoever it is doesn’t become the winner of this season’s Australia’s Next Top Model, they still get this amazing addition to their portfolio!

Good luck girls!

Potentials with enough personality and charm to get the role?

– Dajana: she’s a natural actress. Plus she’s fun and bubbly. That’s all the boxes ticked.

– Jade: not sure about her smile. It kind of looks fake. But overall, her great personality and giant pearly whites should do it.

– Duckie: She’s just so cute! Not only does she have the best personality of all the girls, she’s ALWAYS smiling. No seriously, ALWAYS.

All the girls seemed to have done well, but oh what. Did someone say Ashley sooked again?
Well you heard right, because that’s exactly what she did.

Get out of that bad attitude and pull yourself together woman.
Otherwise, you’re never going to “be on top”.

Now for the big announcement: the new face of Colgate Optic White is… *drum roll*….!

… IS… (longest pause ever!!)

JADE!

I-KNEW-IT.

She had one of the best performances from the beginning, and was fun and relatable throughout the whole casting.
Plus she keeps getting good mentions from Alex Perry and the Brand Manager of Colgate.

Good on you Jade!

Now for the photo shoot. Wonder what the theme is this week.

Photoshoot – Sophisticated Smiles!

Lo and behold, it’s a smiley photoshoot!

The girls were all decked out in glamourous gowns and dreamy hair and make up, and were asked to smile brightly and naturally – like you were just trying to give a sophisticated laugh to what Leonard DiCaprio just joked about.

First off, I must say that I’m loving the drama, the dresses and the overall styling of the shoot!
Majority of the gowns were to die for, and the hair was just purely GOR-GEOUS.

Standouts of the crowd – for good or bad were:

– Melissa: She seems to be having some trouble… or is the intense background music just making me feel like that.
She’s having issues with smiling naturally and that’s definitely affecting her performance.
I hope you pull through Mel!

– Duckie Duckie Duckie: – Cutest girl ever! She’s the sweetest thing and the smiliest – this shoot was made for her.

– Abbie: Okay… again with the scrunched up nose – there’s most likely a giant imaginary garbage bag just under her nose.
Love the white dress though: long and sleeveless. Like a high – end sophisticated formal maxi of some sort.

– Jade: LOVE THE LOOK. The red dress, the lace, the long sleeves – it reminds me of Kristen Stewart’s wedding dress in the final film of the Twilight Saga.

Twilight - Bella's Wedding Dress

Twilight – Bella’s Wedding Dress

– Dajana:

OMG.

LOVE

THE

DRESS

Glitter black lace – again another reminder of an elegant, but more mature version of Kristen’s dress.
Wait, before you comment – I don’t really like K Stew.
I’m just a fan of the Twilight saga.

Love how lace is making a giant come back, but the added long sleeves to a dress just ups the class and makes it so much more elegant. Check the below – aren’t they gorgeous??

Lace Dresses

Lace Dresses

And not that she’s a standout of the photo shoot, but my GOD Ashley.
Say what? Had another little cry? Of course, who would have guessed.

Overall I’m loving this week’s shoot and I just can’t help drooling over all those dresses that were featured!
If only I had a million odd dollars to spare…

Eliminations…!

Before we get to eliminations, can I just say I LOVE Dajana’s picture?
I got an involuntary shiver down my spine… GOD DAMN GURL. You got some talent.

Now away with the biased opinions, here were some of the notable photos:

– Abbie: Wait what? What happened to the scrunched up nose? That must’ve been a great editor with an epic hand at Photoshop, or a super duper awesome photographer…

– Melissa: Worst photo… Alex Perry put it the right way when he described it as something from the “House of Wax” and a “Stepford-Wife kind of surreal” photo.
She was down-right creeping in that picture. Totally turned me off that dress and hair, and obviously she isn’t supposed to do that.

– Duckie: WOW girl! I can’t even see anything but that smile of yours girl!
I must say it’s a bit over the top with the smile. I might not necessarily want to buy anything that she’s wearing, because it’s a little bit too over-enthusiastic for my taste. But it fits the brief, so well done!

Duckie - Episode 8

Duckie – Episode 8

– Jade: Great Colgate pic! She definitely has a great set of teeth which is great for Colgate. But I’m not too sure about the “I’m-looking-up-your-nose-angle”?
Lucky for Jade, she has a very narrow nose. Therefore there wasn’t too much opportunity to see whether everything was a-okay up there. But everything else hit the nail on the head.

Jade - Episode 8

Jade – Episode 8

– Dajana: As mentioned above, this picture make me shiver – it was that good!
I mean it could be my bias speaking, but really it was a naturally great smile picture and it really warms people from the inside. Not only that, she was rocking that dress and showing it off, making me want to buy it – and everything else she was wearing!

So Photo of the Week goes to…:

DUCKIE!

WOW. First photo of the week – CONGRATS!

Though I did like Dajana’s photo a whole lot more, this was still a great photo. And good on you Duckie for winning photo of the week for the first time. You really deserve it!

Now time for the actual elimination…

Madeline or Melissa?

Madeline: tall, beautiful, one-trick pony. Her specialty look: “deer in headlights”.

Melissa: short and has a giant forehead. God is just against her. But she takes stunning photos and just needs a little time to grow.

It’s pretty obvious who’s losing this one.

And of course, the girl eliminated is:

MADELINE.

BAM BAM.

Madeline - Episode 8

Madeline – Episode 8

Poor girl tried. But she just didn’t cut it.

She was eventually going to get eliminated anyway. It was only a matter of when.

Favourite of the week:

Favourite of the week? She’s always been a favourite, but after her achievements tonight, she’s definitely risen with model-potential!

GO JADE.

Hope you get a great boost from scoring that Colgate job!

Well that’s it from me this week guys.
That’s for Australia’s Next Top Model that is.

I’ll be popping up a Lust Have It August box review up very soon, so stay tuned for that!

TALK ABOUT: Australia’s Next Top Model Season 8, Episode 6! [Lesson: TEAM WORK!]

14 Aug

OK… So I may as well get it out there now.

I am… the BIGGEST FAN of Australia’s Next TOP MODEL!

Not just the Australian version, but the whole entire format!
(<3 Tyra!)

I thought I’d channel this addiction for the show and discuss the episodes as they come – so here goes!

The Challenge

So okay, this episode is all about team work, and if you’ve already seen the show, certain actions are definitely NOT team-work-worthy…

But after watching the episode, I’m a little confused about the challenge that they organised for the girls.
What has painting got to do with team work? To me, that’s a bit of a stretch – seemed like they really wanted to tie in the local landscape with the show, and someone in pre-production just came up with the idea of providing 2 giant canvases that a whole bunch of teenagers can toss paint and dirt on it.

Oh and of course, pick one poor chicky from each team and make them “model” in the same position for 45 minutes. Just to make it more of a “model” challenge.

Overall, challenge was a 6/10. Not interesting and I really didn’t find it was much of a lesson for the models to better themselves. But wait…

20/10 for the scandals that came from it!

Taylah choking Ashley over paint on a shirt? Brilliant! Totally TV worthy.

Tayleh vs Ashley: AusNTM scandal!

Taylah vs Ashley: AusNTM scandal!

Poor Taylah though – getting disqualified and made the ‘bad guy’ on national television. Oh and not to mention all the media that’s come from it – the news articles, the radio interviews and basically a whole stink-up around Australia about reality TV. All because of her.

But it’s definitely made the episode and that boring challenge interesting…!

The Photo-SHOOT!

[Theme: Girls On The Run!]

Check out the pics here!

I. LOVE. THIS. THEME.

Gosh, the outfits, the make up, the strong looks that they had to portray – it was amazing!
And all in pairs!

This definitely did make up for the dodgy challenge that was set for the episode.

Best outfits? I must say I’m loving Madeline’s wrap pleather skirt and Shanali’s overalls. Those were definitely stand out pieces of the photoshoot, and definitely something that I would rip off their bodies and toss onto my own! – that’s if I could fit a size 6.

TREND ALERT: Wrap Skirt

TREND ALERT: Wrap Skirt

Places to find these skirts:

ASOS Wrapped Leather Skirt with Zipper: $135.90AUD

ASOS Wrapped Leather Skirt with Zipper: $135.90AUD

ATMOS&HERE Dagger Leather Look Mini @ The Iconic $79.95AUD

ATMOS&HERE Dagger Leather Look Mini @ The Iconic: $79.95AUD

I’ve always loved this punk/grunge trend and the lasting obsession with pleather/leather has definitely fuelled the livelihood of this look on the market. It’s also going hand-in-hand with the sudden craze of hair chalk. Great idea, and great look, but I would never be bothered to chalk my hair with a different colour every day.

Not that it’ll show up on pitch black hair.

Smokey Eye + Hair Chalk = Latest Punk Trend!

Smokey Eye + Hair Chalk = Latest Punk Trend!

But personally, I’ve never been attached to cut outs and ‘holes’ in clothing.

That’s always been a bit of a borderline… shall I say trashy look??

Don’t get me wrong – women who having rockin’ bods can pull it off. No dramas.
But when you start introducing your every day size 12 woman into the picture, the picture starts to get a little less appealing for those that need to look at it.

Cut outs and holes. Not a great trend.

Cut outs and holes. Not a great trend.

Alright, wear what to want to the next Stereosonic or equivalent music festival. But when it comes to day to day attire, there shouldn’t be a need for extra holes in your shirt. Or cut outs that reduce the amount of material on our top by 50%.

Back to the photoshoot though – who loved the props?

The car? The dilapidated windmill?
They were definitely the best ones that the models could’ve worked with.

Feeling a little bad for Dajana and Shannon who had the awkward clothing line that caused way to many hanging limbs in the picture. And Shanali and Taylah who had NOTHING.

Elimination

So there wasn’t much of an elimination this week.
All the media hype around someone getting disqualified, definitely brought down the level of surprise when the moment aired. And considering they did a double elimination of Brooke and April last week, it wasn’t much of a surprise when they didn’t flick off an extra girl at the end of the episode – especially when it was a battle between Duckie and Melissa. Two of the judges’ favourites!

Looking back at Taylah’s photos right at the end though, it’s not such a bad thing that she got disqualified.
She wasn’t the best out of the bunch, and would’ve eventually left if she kept up the “one-trick-pony”. Same face. Different dress.

Still. There were others that are worse *cough* Abbie *cough*.

Favourite of the Week

Jade. Hands down.

Jade - Favourite of the Week

Jade – Favourite of the Week

Actually, she’s always been a favourite of mine, but this week especially was when she shone!

The outfit fit her perfectly, her poses during the photoshoot, her general attitude? – just top stuff!

Hope she goes through to the end. I really do.
Seems like one good girl who is great at taking direction and mature about criticism.

GOOOOOOOO JADE!

SO.

That’s it for this episode run down.

Love the photo shoot theme. Love the looks and the wardrobe!

Let me know whether this post floats your boat for more critique on Australia’s (and maybe other versions… of) Next Top Model!

Talk About Topshop… in Sydney

23 Oct

Dear friends,

You all were most likely ridiculously excited about the long awaited opening of Topshop in Sydney. The talk, the news, and gossips – who wouldn’t be whipped into waiting outside at the crack of dawn during opening day?
Luckily, I had other things to preoccupy me and couldn’t show my love and support like other fans, so only managed to get a good look recently.

Topshop Sydney, Here I… Came!

The first time I went in, I felt like I was at a market/club. I understand that this is the feel Topshop might’ve been going for, but really how can someone properly concentrate on picking out the best pair of overly-sequined shorts when music is disrupting the frequency of my brain waves and I’m having the scrape my back against the wall to get through the store?
Any who, after being ridiculously intimidated and shrinking away like a frightened doe, I returned again to conquer the quest of updated fashion.

During my visit, I realised that everything was a little out of whack…

Problems:

  1. What is with the sequins? Are we all attempting to look like disco balls or is this some sort of activation that requires as many people on the planet to wear reflective clothing to counter-act the lack of return path UV rays?
That must be it. The more UV we can bounce off ourselves, the higher the possibility we can get that crap through the layer of smog and out of our atmosphere.
    Skin cancer solved. Hurrah.
  2. *ahem* Topshop, did you forget that Sydney is actually located on the other side of the globe? We’re currently in Spring and about to step into hot sweltering summer. It seems like you’ve just transported London’s stock over to Sydney, minus the coats and beanies.

Melbournians, is this the same for you? It’ll be interesting to see a Bondi Hipster in the latest Topshop woollen blazer at 35 degrees heat.

All in all I was expecting to really do a haul post rather than a hater blog, but I walked out of there completely disappointed and thirsty to quench my shopaholic needs.

Let’s hope that things change and I’ll be a happy customer soon.
Fingers crossed that all upcoming international brand launches e.g. Forever 21, Sephora and H&M will take the hint and cater to us Southern Hemisphere folk.

I think I’ll be sticking to my local Myers for now…

Lovelove. Rean.

Chat Chat Chatter..

15 Oct

Hello there!

Now I wonder how you managed to stumble across this little site.

What is this all about you say? Well I thought I might just add to all the beauty blogs already within this stratosphere of online opinions and contribute my own little thoughts to products, pieces, places and people to watch out for!

Hopefully this will turn out to be a high traffic smashing blog filled with tips and thoughts on what’s patiently waiting on some store shelf, for you to pick up!
Inspiration: Michelle Phan, Frmheadtotoe, eleventhgorgeous. But hey. I think I’m getting ahead of myself here. I don’t even know what I’m doing let alone the direction and popularity this will travel with.

But all in all, hopefully this will be seen be SOMEBODY out there and I’m not simply speaking to myself…

So drop a line and comment back if you can spare a sec, and I’ll know my efforts aren’t futile.

Lovelove. Rean.
