TALK ABOUT: S8E12 – FINALE!

24 Sep

OMG. WE’RE HERE!

IT’S THE FINALE!

Who’s sitting in front of their TVs, with their eyes glued to the screen like me?!
Well, if you were… you wouldn’t have Googled ANTM and ended up here… right?

ANYWAY. On with the show!

So the finalists are:

Shanali

16, Victoria

Shanali

Shanali

Melissa

16, Victoria

Melissa

Melissa

Duckie

17, Victoria

Duckie

Duckie

To start off the show, ANTM brought back all the losers – I mean past contestants that were eliminated in order of their elimination.

With giant headpieces and dresses flowing for ages, they were the best accessory for Rudimental’s opening!

And might I just add that Jade is absolutely gorgeous!!
(There was definitely going to bit a plug of my favourite ones…)

Done with the eliminated, the final 3 walk on stage with ridiculous outfits – Duckie in gold, Shanali in white and Melissa in black. Hmmm who will take home the crown tonight?
Either way, I hope it looks better than the ones they’re wearing… they left the worst outfits to last.

Out walks Jen Hawkins in a gorgeous low cut royal blue dress.
Introducing the finalists (just in case we live under a rock and didn’t know who they are), she also introduced the judges of the show.

Judges of ANTM S8

Judges of ANTM S8

Anyone see Didier walk out on the runway? Rather than strut his stuff, he began waving his hands whilst wedging his elbows to his waist, looking like a duck all the way…
Worst entry every. And dude, get rid of the beard and horrible hair – hot factor just dropped dramatically.

Now who’s supporting who?

Alex Perry singled out Shanali.

Didier singled out Duckie.

And who else would Charlotte support? Melissa.

Seeing as they’ve all got one each, I assume they weren’t genuine acts of support.
I wonder who they really think will win?

How Far They’ve Come

With quick clips of how each have dealt with going back to school and “back to normal life”, Jen Hawkins brings the girls back out (of course with a wardrobe change) for a quick Q&A – pageant style.

Notable points – I LOVE Shanali’s dress!
The sunny yellow colour definitely compliments her skin tone.

Meanwhile, Melissa stands there with her arms crossed, legs a part; definitely not holding herself up properly as a model.

*Cut to the clip of their Harper’s Bazaar shoot*

Harper’s Bazaar Photo Shoot

A nice little reel of their Harper’s Bazaar photo shoot, Shanali and Duckie show their true potential with some behind-the-scenes footage and proved themselves with our little preview of the final images. But Melissa fell short of impressing me in her cover preview (because I’m so important and everything). I really hope she doesn’t win. The other girls are much better model quality than Melissa!

Following that lovely snippet, we have all 3 judges and all 3 finalists on stage for another quick Q&A.

Shanali impresses me with her answer of wanting to meet Karl Lagerfeld – head designer of power fashion house Chanel, before she “hits the mark” and knows she’s made of model-gold.

Melissa continues to be standoff-ish with her closed stature and smug expressions.
Not cool.

And Duckie disappointed me with her lack of forward-facing (literally – she was looking sideways) and awkward short answers to Didier’s questions!
Poor Duckie had to receive a helping hand from Didier who kept asking the crowd to cheer, in an attempt to help her cover up….

Up next is RICKI-LEE!

Her performance is accompanied by a catwalk by the eliminated contestants, all wearing 80s-hyper real-candy house pieces by Romance Is Born. Loving the line actually!
And a quick shout out to Ashley for looking like a goddess that fell from the heavens. That girl might be annoying, but DAMN, she’s got a great face!

Quick plug from by Jen Hawkins about RICKI-LEE’s new single on iTunes… we’re whipping into another quick reel of each finalist praising the others.

And before we head over to the first elimination, another quick tear-jerking reel is presented with one of each finalists’ parents sharing some words about their baby.

But without further ado…

FIRST ELIMINATION

And without any more hindrance, Jen Hawkins announces the first girl to go through to the final. With my heart beating a million times an hour, along with those on stage; the girl going through to the finals first is….

SHANALI!!!

That was expected though. But congratulations to her!

And now… between Melissa and Duckie, the next girl going through to the finals is….

MELISSA!

WOW that was definitely unexpected! Who would’ve though little Melissa was going through to the end???
But that means Duckie has been eliminated 😦 Poor thing. She definitely had so much potential. I hope she pursues her career with modelling!

DUCKIE – ELIMINATED

FIRST ELIMINATION: DUCKIE

FIRST ELIMINATION: DUCKIE

A great little fuse of models, Cirque du Soleil and Michael Jackson’s back track follows on stage for a TV first performance!

The girls really didn’t’ have much to do besides fill the background, but it was still great to have them be involved in the performance! Imagine that: “I performed on stage with Cirque du Soleil”. That’s sounds amazing enough.

Oh and of course out struts over-accessorised Melissa and Shanali in AMAZING DRESSES.

*insert shameless plug of Cirque du Soleil’s current tour…*

And now for the FINAL ELIMINATION!

FINAL ELIMINATION!

Again another quick reel of Shanali and Melissa’s journey throughout ANTM, we’re now onto the final elimination and announcements of the WINNER OF AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL!

*cue another wardrobe change* – whoa aren’t they tired of all the glitz and glamourous clothing?!
Suppose not.

Now… for the ultimate announcement that we’ve been waiting MONTHS for…

The winner of Australia’s Next Top Model is…..!

MELISSA!!!

WHAT? REALLY. WHOA. NO WAY.

I DID NOT EXPECT THAT!

WINNER: MELISSA

WINNER: MELISSA

Which means Shanali – the judge’s favourite and my bet, was eliminated from the competition.

I’m sure Shanali will already be receiving calls from designers and editors, wanting her to be working on their sets.

ELIMINATED: SHANALI

ELIMINATED: SHANALI

Well that’s all from me! Hope you enjoyed this series 🙂

Let me know if you have any other suggestions for future posts.

TALK ABOUT: ANTM S8EP11

17 Sep

And here comes another week with a brand new episode!
But what…? IT’S THE SECOND LAST EPISODE!

By the end of today, we will know who our final 3 are and who will be in the running to be season 8’s AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL!

CRAAAAZY!

First exciting piece of news:

2 PHOTO SHOOTS!

Second piece of exciting news…

AFRICA BABY!

The girls are shipping straight off to Mauritius, Africa, which is totally exciting because I don’t think I’ve seen ANY season of Next Top Model which has lead the competition to Africa. And let me tell you, I have seen a lot…

Epic house?

Tick.

Crystal blue waters?

Tick!

Hottie judge Didier Cohen??

TICK!

What could be better than that?

Challenge: Walking Under Water

WOWZERS. What an awesome challenge!

The girls are asked to pop a giant bubble on their heads (with oxygen and glass and everything) and tossed into the water to pose pose pose!
Whoever is best at “posing with the fish” and walking under water, wins the challenge.

1st up: Shanali

Fabulously model-esque as always. But really… it’s just because she LOOKS like a model…

2nd up: Abbie

Awkward moves? Definitely.

3rd up: Duckie.

Poor girl. Got too distracting by the colourful fish that she couldn’t concentrate.
Must be an African thing. As she said, they just run fast. Not swim. Might not have gotten used to all the sea-life.

4th up: Melissa.

Well actually she wasn’t 4th up. Or down. Because she didn’t descend to the waters of doom where unimaginably colourful fish would trap her there forever. With Didier. Forever.
… I would’ve gone down there if he was with me!

Friendly Fish

Friendly Fish

*insert shameless advertising plug of some sort of tablet*

Didier visits the girls at their crib to announce the winner.
And the girl who gets a luxurious body scrub in the midst of their crazy ANTM journey is… SHANALI!

What a surprise…!

PHOTO SHOOT #1: Sci-Fi Mermaid

Theme for today: sci-fi mermaid.

Ariel

Ariel

No idea what that is, but hey it sounds good!

THE Jez Smith is back for another round of breath-taking photos and first up is Melissa!

The first thing I noticed though was the recycling of Alex Perry’s lace up boots from Episode 9. Err Alex… didn’t you have anything else on your shoe racks?

Alex Perry's Lace Ups

Alex Perry’s Lace Ups

Melissa: again… what are you doing. Girl, you need to change it up and you know that! Shame on you for not even working on that.

Abbie: no matter how much I dislike her… she did so well! Besides a bit of the leg spread, she well selling that Goth Mermaid!… I mean Sci Fi Mermaid?

Shanali: whoa whoa whoa she slipped! And what does Jez care about the most right now? The shoes. Shocking. Fashion comes first right?
But she got back into business straight away and rocked the shoot.

Duckie: slow start, but with some reassurance by Jen and Dider that the boots weren’t that precious, she got into it and WHOA. Glow like a goddess girl!

Before we hit the breaks (get it? commercial break?), Jen delivers some letters from the models’ families over a lovely luncheon in the middle of paradise.
Oddly enough, each girl was given another girl’s letter. So that they could read it out. In public. In front of the cameras. So they’d all cry and be filmed.

That’s reality TV for you.

PHOTO SHOOT #2: COLOUR VOMIT

Okay maybe it’s not colour vomit. But it definitely looked like it!
The amount of crazy colours with this styling was clown like.

Duckie: girl friend was really distracted again. A prop trotted on set (a local pet dog) and she couldn’t deal with it professionally. A little bit disappointed to be honest.

Melissa: Little Melissa here made a very interesting comparison between her clothing and those from the Capitol in the Hunger Games.
Spot on? Spot on!

Capitol Hunger Games Fashion

Capitol Hunger Games Fashion

But her performance wasn’t spot on – all she did was flick her hair and didn’t bring anything new to the table.
Odd how Jez suggested hair flicking is an art though. Meh, it’s not that hard.
I do it all the time! *flick*

Shanali: Her task: to strut sidewards and show some great legs for the shot.
Great legs? Tick. Good strut? Not so much.
Shanali couldn’t walk without looking like a drunkard at Kings Cross (google it…). Poor thing look like a giraffe walking for the first time and it wasn’t attractive. But hey, if Jez finally loved it, I guess I’ll love him – I mean her too!

Abbie: Firstly, this is definitely cray cray make up. This girl looked like she got punched in the face. And then again another 3 times from different directions.
Note to self: never self-tan or wear pigmented orange blush.
Otherwise, she was definitely working her gown (if you’d call it a gown).
She’s definitely improved since day 1.

Elimination

Melissa’s pictures weren’t that great. She nailed the hair flick, but meh to the gothic/scifi mermaid.

Duckie’s scifi mermaid blended into the background. But that’s not really her fault… She can’t shine if she’s darker than the dress.
The other image was great. But not a WOWZA.

Abbie: LOVE her mermaid shot! Strong, sexy, LOOOOOOOONG LEGS. Clown/coloured picture…. meh. Not strong. Not sexy (but she did look like an odd ball). Not for me.

Shanali: amazing amazing amazing! I LOVE her mermaid shot!

>> Insert: THANK GOD DIDIER. You’re not only a looker, you’ve got the brains as well! He pointed out that Duckie has been consistently a great model, but Abbie has only had great shots at the end of the season. SO TRUE. You got it dude!

And now for the winner of the episode….

Shanali!

Well that was expected.

The one who’s eliminated though and will not get through to the finale for the public vote is…

*super long cliff hanger*

ABBIE!~

Eliminated: Abbie

Eliminated: Abbie

YESSSSS! Finally! We see eye to eye!

Abbie has been great in the last couple of episodes, but she hasn’t performed well throughout the whole competition, whereas Duckie has been hovered at the top of the mountain throughout the whole of Season 8.

Good choice!

Before I sign off though, it would’ve been better if Melissa and Abbie were in the bottom 2. I don’t think Melissa did that well to be above Duckie. But hey, Duckie got her spot, so I’m not complaining.

That’s it for this post guys!

Tune in next week to see who gets crowned AUSTRALIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL!

TALK ABOUT: ANTM S8E10

10 Sep

YAYER. Another week of top model – don’t I love this shit?

This week we start off with a lovely little Jen Mail hidden in the depths of the fridge (between the skim milk and cheese).
The girls need to man up you say? Why… what does that mean?

LESSON: How to man up…!

Rugby of course!

The girls head off for some drills on the football court. Getting down and dirty with some rugby. Along with some English eye candy, this is looking like a great start to the episode.

Anything interesting happen? Nothing much.
Just more reasons to dislike Abbie – who doesn’t know how to decipher between her lefts and rights!?

CHALLENGE: How to be a male model…?

Onto the challenge. Rocco the Drag King makes an appearance, along with a whole bunch of make up artists and Charlotte Dawson… who is quite artificial herself.

This is an exciting challenge! The girls need to try and act like a male model.
With androgyny being the hottest trend on the market, it’s no wonder why these girls need to try and be boys as well.

A prime example of androgyny at it’s best is our very own Australian Andrej Pejic!

Man? Woman? Man? WOMAN! Hello Andrej :)

Man? Woman? Man? WOMAN! Hello Andrej 🙂

The girls get to pick out their masculine outfits and choose their character. All whilst taking tips from Rocco to walk the walk and talk the talk.

Err, so with the transformations…. Duckie looks like the man. Really fit the brief, but whoa. This shit just got real with Duckie. She dressed up as a Melbournian construction worker. Nice one.

Dajana… LOVE THE ACTING.
Girlfriend, you are so on character, it’s hilarious!
I always knew you were wog, but you definitely brought that inner wog to life with a European business man working with “import and export”.

Dajana's Inspriation

Dajana’s Inspriation

Pretty much like our star of “The Wog Boy“. But with chains. And some intense facial hair.

Gotta love these challenges. This is most likely the most imaginative yet from the whole ANTM format – and trust me when I say this because I’ve seen them ALL. (Well all the ones in English and those that I can get my hands on anyway…)

After a little embarrassing role play of testing their manly skills in public, it’s revealed that a prize is up for grabs! Something along the lines of a tablet or small laptop with Windows 8 pre-loaded.
Sorry guys I was too busy drooling over Didier.

And to everyone’s surprise (not), DUCKIE WON!

Yeah that’s definitely a good choice. Seriously. There was way too much ‘man’ involved in her character.

Jade did mention something interesting though – “if I could push a button and have someone leave the competition…” [it’ll be Duckie].
Hmm… is this an indication of who’s leading the pack?
Duckie seems to be cruising along just fine and isn’t really failing in anything.

I wonder whether this is showing us a little insight into who’s in the final 3…?

PHOTO SHOOT: 90s Androgyny

I’m loving the idea of an androgynous shoot, but I’m not a fan of 90s fashion. In fact, I reckon you need to give it about 30 years before you revisit fashion trends. If you start tapping into relatively recent fashion, you just become out-dated.

Suits in the 90s - courtesy of N'SYNC

Suits in the 90s – courtesy of N’SYNC

It was all suits, ties and baggy pants this week, but none were too appealing.

Shanali: WHOA. 3 minute photo shoot. SAY WHAT? “Modelling Hall of Fame” (- Alex Perry). For sure girl! That’s crazy.
Even she thought the crew were joking…

Abbie: Again a good week! Hmmm maybe I under estimated her. She was blowing the photographer – Georges Anthoni, away. He was giggling himself giddy!
And her final photo? Amazing. Even I think so and I don’t like her. She looks like a man from afar, but the close up towards her face showed femininity and grace.

Jade/Dajana: you girls didn’t do too well this week at all. Didn’t fit the brief, wasn’t looking comfortable, looked like a model but didn’t model… you get the drift.

Melissa: “Already she’s model-worthy. Because she’s interesting.” – Georges Antoni. I hate it how Melissa has that advantage. But time and time again, her lack of range in her expression is noticed. And this week was not an exception.

Duckie: Hmm… considering on how she won the challenge, you’d think she’d do well. But nope. She did good, but not great. Girlfriend needed direction and wasn’t bringing “wow” to the lips of Alex and Georges Antoni.
Her final picture though was great. Bad hair? Yes. But that’s not her fault. That’s the hair stylist and brief’s fault. But the rest of here – whoa. I SO want to buy that suit.

And without a doubt, photo of the week goes to…

ABBIE!

Good on you girl! Seriously loved your picture this week and your attempt at the challenge was hilarious and convincing. Good choice judges.

And now for the bottom of the pack. Wait… what? Bottom 3?

NOOOOOO! DOUBLE ELIMINATION!

Shows that we’re nearing the end of the competition and the end of the show 😦

It’s now between Dajana, Duckie and Jade.
Who’s in and who’s out?

It’s a sad, sad day but the only one safe between the bottom 3 is Duckie.

That means, but my girls Dajana and Jade are OUT of the competition!

Eliminated: Dajana & Jade

Eliminated: Dajana & Jade

Too SAD 😦

Well it wasn’t going to last. They had good weeks and they had great weeks. But no matter how great they were one week, consistency was always and issue and it became their downfall.

Would’ve loved to see a westie hitting it through to the final 3 though.

Next week is the final 3 decider.
We have Duckie, Abbie, Melissa and Shanali still in the running. Who will JUST miss out on the fame and glory of final 3?
I say Melissa or Abbie.

Duckie and Shanali have had a solid run in the competition and hence should be able to secure a spot in the finals.

So lets wait till next week to see!

For now…

TALK ABOUT: ANTM S8E9! [Lesson: Body Shapes]

3 Sep

Hello hello!

Sorry for missing last week’s breakdown guys! I was feeling so horrible that… I missed the first 10 minutes of the episode! *GASP!* Blasphemy!

But at the end of the day, I watched the rest of the episode and was joyously rewarded with Ashley’s eviction! “Joy To The WOOOOOOOORLD!”
She was way too naggy and too much of a sook for her own good.
Good riddens!

The Challenge

Say what? Anti-gravity yoga? I want to try that!

The girls were required to do an anti-gravity yoga class to “learn the shapes of their body”.
Overall? Not bad girls! I didn’t think Abbie would’ve been the best at the challenge, but then again she is pretty much a monkey on camera. So it makes sense for her to be a monkey in yoga…

I wonder how long they had to hang upside down for though. That would’ve been fun!

Straight after the yoga class, the girls were shipped to some old-fart ex-jail and did another challenge that had nothing to do with the old-fart ex-jail…

Alex Perry’s “hot-off-the-runway” pieces were thrown into a small phone booth, along with some make up and a couple of girls to challenge them in a race to get ready. Loved the idea!
Only these girls would’ve been able to do it. If someone of my size (*ahem* size 12 *ahem*) attempted that challenge, I would’ve suffocated my opponent by accidentally squishing her against the glass with my “voluptuous” bottom.

So… lovely Dajana did a great job there. When commenting on Alex Perry’s frayed shoelaces on Alex Perry’s heels in front of Alex Perry himself, she blurted “IF YOUR CLOTHES WERE BETTER QUALITY, YOUR SHOELACES WOULDN’T BE FRAYED!” (something on the lines of that anyway. I don’t remember).

What’s with the heels anyway? It was gothic turned glam. Though not in a nice way.

Alex Perry High Lace Boots

Alex Perry High Lace Boots

It’ll be a complete bitch to lace them up, especially if you’re running late for work…!

5529-1

Hmmm… Love the laces?

Either way though, you know that wouldn’t have given Mr Perry the best impression of my favourite contestant.

In the end, Abbie the Monkey won the challenge, swept Duckie off her heels and got shipped to to the Langham Hotel for a high tea and a tea leaf reading. How lovely.

CHAT WITH DAMN-HOT-DIDIER

Oh how lovely! Didier Cohen made a surprise visit to the house, talking the girls through this experiences away from home, and helping the producers pry some good quality TV – I mean insight into why the girls are in the competition.

You know, for someone that’s only 16, Melissa is REALLY mature for her age!
Comparing her to the likes of Abbie is embarrassing. Melissa held a perfectly decent conversation for something who’s so young. I can’t imagine myself talking and walking like she does, when I was her age.

And *gasp* about Duckie’s sister! That’s definitely news!
This chat definitely has helped pull my heart strings towards Duckie for sure!

‘Meh’ to the other responses.
I’ve heard it all before.

Photoshoot Time!

C-O-S-M-O SHOOT!

SAY WHAT??!?!?

That’s CRAZY. Such an amazing prize for dodgy amateur models who aren’t even near the end of the competition yet! And they ALL get to go in the mag?!??!? THAT’S CRAY CRAY!

Notables?

Abbie: I’m loving her hair! She definitely looks better with her hair down. But performance + outfit + result…. meh.

Jade: LOVE HER. AND she proved herself. LOVE IT. Didn’t quite like her outfit. I’m not the biggest fan of 80s fashion. But you could tell she was on her GAME with her MOVES!

Shanali: Hmm… didn’t seem like she got the best comments from those on set, but cudos to her for changing up her face shape from “flat” to “I’mma bitch yo”.

Dajana: Again my favourite pulls through! She was working her SHAPES, working her BOD. Working her EVERYTHING. You go GIRL. I hope you get that extra feature in Cosmo.

Shannon: Didn’t do a very good job, girl. But I love your geometric skirt!

Geometric Skirts

Geometric Skirts

Check these babies out!

Verdict for the double page spread?

DUCKIE! CONGRATS!

I personally loved a couple of the other girls’ photos a lot more, but she must’ve had an amazing collection of shots to earn the double page!

ELIMINATION

On the left we have SHANALI! Tall, graceful, seemingly never at fault (but obviously failed this to impress this week).
On the right we have SHANNON! Bland, over-shadowed and besides having a giant set of teeth… nothing note worthy.

Hmmm… without having been too obvious, the next to leave is….

SHANNON!

PHOTO OF THE WEEK

And photo of the week went to Dajana!

YAYAYAYAY! You go girl!!!!!

You work that BOD.

Well that’s it for this week’s episode. Not taken away by the styling at all – the 80s hair and styling was not my cup of tea. But I’m definitely loving Shannon’s geometric patterned skirt and geometric-statement-necklace/plain-shirt combo 🙂

Until next week…!

Love love,

REAN.
